Dee Ostrander Pro for Baker Skateboards

When we first got word that Baker would be surprising our good friend, Dee Ostrander, with his very first pro model, we knew we had to be there.  We got wind of the big secret only a couple of days before, so we cleared our schedules, packed up the car, filled the cooler and headed to Dee’s hometown of Nashville, Tennessee.

Getting ready for the road.

When we arrived in Nashville, we met up with the F.U. Crue and hit the streets.  Then we met Dee and the Baker boys at the first spot.

The heat really got turned up at the next spot.  We were rolling with about 40 dudes, and we are at this sick rail spot in downtown Nashville.  Security showed up, and they were pissed off right away.  One of the security guys pushed someone, and the crew didn’t take that very well.  A couple pushes and middle fingers later, security blocked all the entrances and all the vans and cars that were with us had to hop some curbs to get away before the cops showed up.

"Suck IT" to security.

“Suck IT” to security.

After a couple more spots and a couple more run-ins with cops and security, it was time to head to Hattie B’s where Andrew Reynolds was planning to turn Dee pro.  In classic Boss Man style, Reynolds picked up the tab and bought everyone plenty of food and beer.  When the food arrived on everyone’s tables, Doughnut (Baker Team Manager) walked around with a tray of specially labeled Texas Pete hot sauce bottles.  Dee grabbed a bottle, and then realized what was happening.  As soon as he began to look around the patio errupted and out came his first pro model boards for Baker.  That is when things start to get blurry.  Thanks for the good times, and the heavy hangover, Nashville.  DEE IS F#CK!NG PRO!

Vans’ Propeller | 7 Highlights

Vans‘ first full length video, Propeller, has arrived, and it exceeded our expectations by a mile.  It is very rare that a video with so much hype around it actually lives up to everyone’s expectations.  Every single part in the video could have been the curtains of any average video, but not a Vans video.  From Chima and Rowan, to Dan Lu and Gilbert, to Kyle Walker and AVE, this video is jam packed with the most amazing skateboarding paired with beautiful cinematography.  We watched it over and over again and compiled a short list of clips that definitely deserve some extra love…

Get Ready for Vans’ New Video ‘Propeller’

Vans Propeller

Vans has been trying to make a video for quite some time.  Their team is a perfect blend of the last couple decades of skateboarding including riders like Steve Caballero, Geoff Rowley, and Rowan Zorilla.  They have just recently announced and dropped a trailer for their new video called Propeller.  Rounding up the whole team and getting them all on the same page, as far as filming for the video goes, was a huge ordeal alone.  Not only that, but they have teamed up with Greg Hunt, the filmmaker behind some of skateboarding’s most iconic videos including Alien Workshop’s Mindfield and Transworld Skateboarding’s Sight Unseen, to make the video.  If that isn’t enough to get you stoked, we have laid out some pretty memorable video parts from Vans team riders over the years to hold you over until Propeller comes out.

Anthony Van Engelen – The DC Video

AVE is known for putting out really strong video parts.  While most of you may relate to his Mindfield part, we would like to shed some light on his part in The DC Video.  It’s worth mentioning that Greg Hunt also made this video.  AVE and Greg Hunt have worked on numerous parts together so we can’t wait to see what they come up with for this new one.

Nyjah Huston and the Illuminati in Skateboarding?

Nyjah Huston Illuminati

Nyjah Huston is too good at skateboarding, and we all know that.  He wins just about every contest he enters, and puts out amazing street parts that can’t be matched.  What is his secret?  Many believe it is his dedication and practice, some think it is a natural born talent, but what if it is something a little darker than that?  We have reason to believe that Nyjah may have joined an elite organization of devil worshipers more commonly known as the Illuminati.  The Illuminati is a group of individuals shrouded in secrecy that are believed to be in control of the world’s governments and economies.  By selling his soul to the devil and joining the Illuminati, Nyjah has gained the ability to become the best skateboarder in the world.  Don’t believe us?  Here’s the proof…

Nyjah AYC Ad

Nyjah Illuminati

This looks like a normal Asphalt Yacht Club ad featuring Nyjah right?  WRONG!  Here you can see the Illuminati influencing young skaters by using their infamous triangle symbol and Eye of Providence as the A in Nyjah’s name.

Monster Energy 666

Monster Energy Drink is one of Nyjah’s biggest sponsors.  It has recently come to light that Monster Energy Drink’s infamous logo actually translates to the numbers 6-6-6 in Hebrew, which represents the devil.

Nyjah Illuminati

Here we see Nyjah rocking a Monster Energy hat while holding a trophy that showcases the Illuminati’s triangle logo once again.  This signifies both his devil worshiping qualities and his Illuminati association.

While this 18 stair front blunt seems pretty innocent, it in fact is not.  Lets think about this for a second.  18 stairs, huh?  That’s funny because what number if added to itself three times equals 18?  You guessed it, 6.

666=18

Nyjah Byeonce Jay-z

Nyjah has also been recently photographed walking down the red carpet with other famous Illuminati members, Beyonce and Jay-Z.

To the untrained eye this looks like a photo of Mr. Huston posing for a friend’s camera phone.  Take a closer look at his chest, and you will see something strange.  Is that an outline of an eye?

nyjah-chest

nyjah-chest2

Yes, indeed it is!  This leaked photo clearly shows that there is a famous Illuminati “all seeing eye” logo on Nyjah’s chest.

nyjah-illuminati4

Even his new DC shoe has clear Illuminati references built in to the design.

The proof is there people, you just have to know what you are looking for.  Next time you see him win another contest or do some mind-blowing trick, just remember that Nyjah Huston has channeled the powers of evil to gain his incredible skateboarding abilities.  We as skateboarders need to stand up against his evil powers and out this monster as a cheater because without Nyjah around, real skateboarders like P-Rod or Luan Oliveira might actually have a decent chance at winning a Street League event.

Still don’t believe us?  It’s okay, everyone loves a good conspiracy theory, right?

This Week on the Web: February 6th, 2015

The internet never turns off, or sleeps, making it hard to catch all of those great skate videos coming out daily.  In an effort to curb your relentless search for that video somene told you about we’ve compiled some highlights from skateboarding on the web this week.

1.  Superstar 80’s By Gonz

If you skate, you love Mark Gonzalez, or “The Gonz.”  This dude is definitely old enough to be most of our fathers, but he still knows how to rip on that plank of wood.  He has found his home at Adidas, and this commercial features a retro shoe breing brought back to life by Mark Gonzales.  While this is technically a commercial for a shoe, the video also showcases a good bit of skate footage from the street skating god father himself.  Spoiler Alert: that boardslide off the ramp was nuts!

2.  Behind The French Fred Scenes Are Back On Thrasher Magazine

Fred Mortagne, more commonly known as French Fred, has been in the trenches and filmed some of skateboarding’s most iconic videos including Flip’s Sorry, and Es’ Menikmati.  In the last year or two he has slowly been releasing the raw and sometimes unseen clips from the time period in which he filmed those videos.  Fred’s releases on Thrasher Magazine have been dormant for a couple months, but this week have resurfaced featuring Arto Saari and Kerry Getz in in Barcelona.

3.  Postcard 3

The Magenta Skateboards movement has been on the rise the last couple of years, and for all the right reasons.  Hailing from France, these dudes have brought new light to the creativity and fun of skateboarding within a major city center.  This 9 minute video features some of the most recognizable Magenta heads while also highlighting most of the Bourdeaux scene.  Worth noting, there is a little over a minute of footage from a since deceased french spot in the mid 90’s, and it is dope.

4.  Chris Joslin Plan B-Roll

Highlighting videos of the week wouldn’t even count if Chris Joslin’s crazy ass was not included.  The first three videos have had an unconscious retro theme, but this one is a perfect showcase of where skateboarding stands today.  Chris Joslin is full speed ahead after a “Welcome To Etnies” part, and his break-out part in Plan B’s latest video True.  This footage is all of the stuff he stacked that somehow didn’t make the cut for True.  This guy is a footage machine that con’t be  stopped.  Sit back and hang on to your breeches, this is another wild one.

The New Emerica Figgy Shoe

Emerica x Figgy

The long overdue release of Emerica‘s Justin “Figgy” Figueroa shoe has finally arrived.  They are pumping this shoe pretty hard, and it seems to be for all the right reasons.  Although the shoe may look very simple and thin, it is actually one of the most padded shoes Emerica has in their arsenal right now.  Figgy likes to jump down and grind some of the heaviest terrain in skateboarding, so naturally his shoe accomodates for that type of skating perfectly.  It also features a built-in sock liner to keep your foot strapped in for that wild ride down your local 12 stair handrail.  Unfortunately, we won’t have them for sale until the middle of February, but we were granted an early preview of the shoe in person.  Here what Figgy, himself, has to say about the shoe and check out some of our photos below.
