Vans has been “Off The Wall” since 1966. Appealing to all walks of life, Vans brings a taste of their relaxed southern California roots to people around the world. Take off with this photo set showcasing some Vans gear that will help chill out your high-speed lifestyle.
Without a doubt, lately, you’d be hard pressed to look into a footwear catalog and not see at least one model featuring a rubberized toe cap. The majority of footwear brands are adapting to this trend. “Why?”, you may ask? Well for starters, besides offering a slight vintage look (Think PF Flyers and The Sandlot) the rubber toe cap significantly adds more life to your standard skate shoe.
In no particular order. Here are some of our favorite upcoming releases and a model we hope to see in the near future:
What you see is what you get with this no thrills low top; vulcanized construction + minimal padding. Definitely a good look for anyone looking for superior board feel but can sacrifice a little support.
Aesthetically, the Vans Happy Daze and Huf Classic Lo look a lot alike. However, the Happy Daze is not necessarily a cut and dried skate shoe. It caters more to day to day casual wear. With it’s removable, washable UltraCush Eco footbed, go ahead and pop them socks off because you will want to go sockless on your next night out on the town.
When I think of rubberized toe caps, personally, two shoes pop into my head: Converse Chuck Taylor All Star & the Adidas Superstar. The latter has recently been reissued in several limited color-ways to honor the skateboarders who wore them best (Kareem Campbell, Richard Angelides, Drake Jones, and Joey Bast).
With that being said, I’d like to call attention to the fact that Elissa Steamer should be noted in this conversation. Just watch her part in Toy Machine’s “Welcome to Hell (1996)”. We would love to see “Steamer” written in gold foil by the three stripes! Elissa truly is a Superstar.
For what seems like an eternity a lot of us have been wondering what shoe has the whimsical Cory Kennedy been running. Well, it’s the All Court and it’s about to drop this fall and here is a sneak peak for the ones dropping in November and December:
It doesn’t take a sneaker expert to tell you that Converse is no stranger to rubberized toe caps. From the Jack Purcell to the Chuck Taylor the rubber toe cap is part and parcel to Converse’s image. This summer they will introduce a new style that mimics the more petite toe cap of the Huf Classic or Happy Daze. So if you were ever on the fence and need a shoe to test the rubber toe cap waters you are in luck. The Converse Sumner will be available in June!
This last style is pure speculation but everyone here is hoping this model comes to fruition.
Evan Smith has been spotted wearing a sample of a low top vulcanized DC shoe that features, you guessed it….a RUBBER TOE CAP.
So with DC potentially creating a pro model with this rubberized toe cap, I think it’s safe to say that this re-emerging style is here to stay. It will be incredibly interesting to see what other brands adapt.
Adidas has just issued several special color ways of their iconic Superstar shell toe shoe for the people that rocked them best: Richard Angelides, Kareem Campbell, Drake Jones, and Joey Bast. To help commemorate the event we put together a short Instagram teaser showcasing what we think are the best tricks by them rocking the famed shell toe. Here are the videos in full from where we compiled the clips: Read More
Vans has been trying to make a video for quite some time. Their team is a perfect blend of the last couple decades of skateboarding including riders like Steve Caballero, Geoff Rowley, and Rowan Zorilla. They have just recently announced and dropped a trailer for their new video called Propeller. Rounding up the whole team and getting them all on the same page, as far as filming for the video goes, was a huge ordeal alone. Not only that, but they have teamed up with Greg Hunt, the filmmaker behind some of skateboarding’s most iconic videos including Alien Workshop’s Mindfield and Transworld Skateboarding’s Sight Unseen, to make the video. If that isn’t enough to get you stoked, we have laid out some pretty memorable video parts from Vans team riders over the years to hold you over until Propeller comes out.
Anthony Van Engelen – The DC Video
AVE is known for putting out really strong video parts. While most of you may relate to his Mindfield part, we would like to shed some light on his part in The DC Video. It’s worth mentioning that Greg Hunt also made this video. AVE and Greg Hunt have worked on numerous parts together so we can’t wait to see what they come up with for this new one.
The highly anticipated video from Shane O’Neill titled “Shane Goes” literally did just that. Once it was put on Thrasher magazine’s website a very select few were able to watch it before hundreds, thousands, millions of people hit the site at the same time. What happens to a website when it gets flooded with people? You guessed it – the servers crashed. Thankfully Thrasher was able to get the problem fixed and now you can enjoy what is arguable the best web edit we’ve seen this year. Sit back and watch Skate Mental’s very own go just that….Mental.
Nyjah Huston is too good at skateboarding, and we all know that. He wins just about every contest he enters, and puts out amazing street parts that can’t be matched. What is his secret? Many believe it is his dedication and practice, some think it is a natural born talent, but what if it is something a little darker than that? We have reason to believe that Nyjah may have joined an elite organization of devil worshipers more commonly known as the Illuminati. The Illuminati is a group of individuals shrouded in secrecy that are believed to be in control of the world’s governments and economies. By selling his soul to the devil and joining the Illuminati, Nyjah has gained the ability to become the best skateboarder in the world. Don’t believe us? Here’s the proof…
This looks like a normal Asphalt Yacht Club ad featuring Nyjah right? WRONG! Here you can see the Illuminati influencing young skaters by using their infamous triangle symbol and Eye of Providence as the A in Nyjah’s name.
Monster Energy Drink is one of Nyjah’s biggest sponsors. It has recently come to light that Monster Energy Drink’s infamous logo actually translates to the numbers 6-6-6 in Hebrew, which represents the devil.
Here we see Nyjah rocking a Monster Energy hat while holding a trophy that showcases the Illuminati’s triangle logo once again. This signifies both his devil worshiping qualities and his Illuminati association.
While this 18 stair front blunt seems pretty innocent, it in fact is not. Lets think about this for a second. 18 stairs, huh? That’s funny because what number if added to itself three times equals 18? You guessed it, 6.
Nyjah has also been recently photographed walking down the red carpet with other famous Illuminati members, Beyonce and Jay-Z.
To the untrained eye this looks like a photo of Mr. Huston posing for a friend’s camera phone. Take a closer look at his chest, and you will see something strange. Is that an outline of an eye?
Yes, indeed it is! This leaked photo clearly shows that there is a famous Illuminati “all seeing eye” logo on Nyjah’s chest.
Even his new DC shoe has clear Illuminati references built in to the design.
The proof is there people, you just have to know what you are looking for. Next time you see him win another contest or do some mind-blowing trick, just remember that Nyjah Huston has channeled the powers of evil to gain his incredible skateboarding abilities. We as skateboarders need to stand up against his evil powers and out this monster as a cheater because without Nyjah around, real skateboarders like P-Rod or Luan Oliveira might actually have a decent chance at winning a Street League event.
Still don’t believe us? It’s okay, everyone loves a good conspiracy theory, right?
