Throwback Thursday | Steve Olson – Fulfill the Dream

Today marks two years since Guru, the front man of the legendary hip-hop duo Gang Starr, died of a heart attack. Gang Starr’s songs are littered throughout skateboard videos in the 1990s and had a huge influence on an array of artists from Wu-Tang and Jay-Z, to RJD2 and Christina Aguilera (Preemo has in fact produced a hit single for Christina). To pay homage to Guru and DJ Premier, check out Steve Olson’s part in Fulfill the Dream where he skates to “Above the Clouds”, the last big Gang Starr joint to blow before the duo split up in 1998.

Ambush Board Co. | Team Shoot Preview

Last week we had local rippers and long-time affiliates Mitch, Zerm, and Catnip out to the BSS mini ramp to take some photo’s. These guys are the newest addition to the skate team. We are proud to make them part of the family and look forward to seeing what they have store for the future.

Keep an eye peeled for more photos and footage of these guys in the near future. We’ve kept the good photos in our back pocket….

Stance Socks |

Skateboarding represents many things to many people; a way of transportation, a recreational activity, a job, and most importantly an art form. It has always been about expression and individuality, a perfect way to separate one’s self from the conforming masses.

Stance Socks embodies these ideas flawlessly. Celebrate bold expression and send a crystal clear “mixed” message that’s silently loud and quietly bold. Stance Socks are designed in California and worn everywhere. Celebrate the spirit of skateboard culture with Stance Socks and

Stance Half Tone Socks (White)I love these classic tube socks because they’re an oxy-moron: they match but don’t match at the same time. Unofficial Fruit Stripe Gum collab? We’ll keep dreaming…

Stance Half Commando Pack (Black) – $14.99 Three PairThese half-mast socks are a staple for your summer wardrobe. Rock them with shorts and get rid of that farmers tan quick. The elastic arch support keeps them from sliding around like those cheap, easily stretched-out versions found at department stores.

Maytal Socks (Rasta) – $9.99 (pair) – These tubes throw a conservative hue to the classic rasta colorway. These are on my feet right now. That’s why i’m walking around with no shoes in the office today…

Stance Sun God Socks (Orange) – 13.99

Behold my favorite socks of all-time, the Stance “Sun God” sock. The reason I have such a fascination with this image is because it’s also on the cover of my favorite record of all time: Bob Jame’s first album One. Bob James has been sampled thousands of times by hip-hop artists, most notably for Jay-Z’s “Dig a Hole” track off Kingdom Come.

Travis Glover | Zoo York | NYC

It’s great to see kids on the come up these days with good style.

Although the concept of good style is completely relative, it’s a term synonymous with the homie Travis Glover. Travis is from our hometown and it has been great seeing him create such a buzz in the industry. The kid is as charismatic off the board as he is on it and super down to earth.

Check out this video of Travis and Chaz Ortiz skating NYC on a recent Zoo York trip. Travis has a back tail smooth like a than a hot comb on nappy a__ hair.

“Episode 3 of the ZOO YORK POST features Chaz Ortiz and Travis Glover on their recent trip to NYC. Watch as the crew shreds all over the city, stops in at local hot spots, helps design next year’s apparel and much, much more.

Filmed and Edited by R.B. Umali for Zoo York Media Group.”

**Big shouts to Zoo York Media Group for keeping golden era hip hop alive.
