Team Member Shot In Atlanta

On November 27th, Ambush Inc. skate team member Josh Butler was shot in the abdomen.

Josh and crew were hanging out on the front porch of a friend’s apartment. Josh had no idea that his life would permanently change in a matter of seconds.

Three men passed by a few times and looked in the direction of the apartment. Josh and crew were disengaged and uninterested in the three.

In an instant the nonchalant passers-by became armed robbers. Two of the men pointed guns demanding money and cell phones. One of the guns was aimed directly at Josh’s face.  Instinctively Josh pushed the gun towards the ground and in the process, a shot was fired into Josh’s abdomen.

The bullet entered his stomach before exiting his rear.

Needless to say, the road to recovery starts now. Although Josh is still hospitalized, he is improving rapidly. He is eating solid food and walking unassisted for several yards at a time. The healing process will take a long time, but with your help the comforting can begin immediately.

Josh’s medical bills are already astronomical. On top of that, add six months of nurses visits, physical therapy, another scheduled surgery, antibiotics, and pain meds. It’s a staggering sum that could financially destroy Josh and his family. So we are appealing to you for help.

Josh coined the term “small town charm” and is one of the most positive people we know. We’ve set a page dedicated to Josh here. The Josh Butler Medical Fund has been set up through SunTrust Bank.

Please donate any and all you can to help Josh recover from this unconscionable act of violence. To donate by cash or check, please visit any Atlanta area SunTrust Bank and ask to contribute to the Josh Butler Medical Fund.

Johnny Romano Skate Jam: Skateboarding’s Largest Non-Profit Fundraising Event

This past Saturday concluded the 15th annual Johnny Romano Skate Jam at Southside Skatepark in Houston. This event is skateboarding’s largest non-profit fundraising event and has raised over $650,000 over the years for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The event is the brainchild of Houston native and skateboarder Damien Hebert. “In 14 years we have raised over $650,000 for Make-A-Wish thus directly effecting about 130 kids in making their wishes come true!” Herbert explains. “The great thing about Make-A-Wish is year after year this chapter puts over 93% to 95% of the money raised directly into the wishes for these wonderful children.”

Pros and ams came out on Sunday to participate in best trick contests, skate with the kids, and hang out. All winnings were donated to charity. It’s always great to see skateboarding give back.

Highlights from the day can be seen here.

Ben Raybourn Pro for $lave

Is it really true that Texas has given rise to the most pro skateboarders out of any state? That’s the word on the web. Texas can now add another to the list now that Ben Raybourn has gone pro for $lave. Ben’s known as having a sort of old-school style that includes a bag of tricks from a different era. “I guess I just do my own thing. Me and my friends would just do weird, dumb tricks,” Ben claims.

Ben’s first series of decks are out now and ready to ship. His sponsors include $lave skateboards, Bones wheels,  Ipath shoes, and Theeve trucks.

Just In: Pudwill on Nixon

Nixon is proud to announce the newest addition of pro skater Torey Pudwill to the Nixon team. The current Nixon skate team unanimously voted Torey on and he now joins the likes of Tony Hawk, Paul Rodriguez, Andrew Reynolds, Bob Burnquist, Colin McKay, Danny Way, Ryan Sheckler and Rick McCrank.

Nixon skater, Colin McKay expresses, “I’m stoked to have Torey on Nixon because he is simply one of the raddest individuals in all of skateboarding.”

Torey started his skating career in Simi Valley at Old Shorty’s skatepark, gaining more and more recognition as the years passed. A video clip surfaced online, and Torey became an instant success with his innovative style and technique prowess. Paul Rodriguez and Colin McKay urged the addition of Torey to the Nixon skate lineup and brought him up and onto the team.

With his own solo video, Big Bang, Torey has set himself on the map as one of the most high-powered skaters out there. Focused now on filming, Torey is currently training and pushing the limits as a strong and successful skater. ” – via nixonnow.com
